Is it possible to conduct layoffs in a way that’s respectful and compassionate?
According to Summer, there definitely is.
I don’t always share specific podcast episodes, but this week’s episode was a topic that I’ve talked to multiple people about recently.
This week, we interviewed Summer Miller, an HR consultant who’s focused on helping businesses navigate people-centered change. Through both her own personal experience and her work, she helped us understand:
– Why the layoff conversations often seems too scripted and impersonal
– How to manage risk while still being human
– The importance of transparency and treating employees like grown ups
– How to think about supporting employees through the transition
– How to manage your own emotions if you’re the one delivering the bad news
As someone who was laid off from my previous role, this was a really eye-opening conversation and gave me a greater appreciation of how difficult the whole process can be.

You can listen on Spotify, Apple, Main Website or watch it on YouTube
I’d love to hear your thoughts and see what you think.
Have you ever been a part of or seen a compassionate layoff process? I’d love to hear about it, reply back and let me know!
Cheers,
Chris
